薔薇の祖先、最初の薔薇の色が解析された。中国の北京林業大学（Beijing Forestry University）が行った、野生種～栽培種まで含む薔薇の大規模ゲノム解析研究の結果、薔薇の祖先の色が突き止められた。
“中国植物誌”（Flora of China）掲載のバラ属の84％にあたる80種以上、205サンプルを最新のゲノム解析と集団遺伝学的手法を使い、DNA中の保存性の高い遺伝マーカーを解析し、薔薇の進化を研究した。
結果、全薔薇の共通祖先は「黄色の一重咲きの花」に、小葉が7枚の植物だったと分かった。
その論文は2025年4月4日付で科学雑誌 Nature Plants に掲載された。
